Always wanted to learn to sew but don't know where to start? Our Online Learn to Sew Class is the perfect introduction to sewing for complete beginners.
If you live outside York, can't attend one of our in-person sewing workshops, or simply prefer learning from the comfort of your own home, our fun and practical two-hour online sewing class will help you get started with confidence.
Led by one of our friendly Sewcialising tutors, you'll learn how to set up and use your sewing machine, practise essential sewing techniques and develop the skills you need to start your own sewing projects.
Our online sewing lessons are relaxed, supportive and completely beginner-friendly. No previous sewing experience is needed!
What you’ll learn during the class:
During your live online sewing lesson, we'll guide you step by step through the basics of using a sewing machine.
You'll learn how to:
- Set up and safely use your sewing machine
- Understand the different parts of your machine and what they do
- Thread your sewing machine correctly
- Wind and insert a bobbin
- Change a sewing machine needle
- Sew straight lines and practise basic stitching techniques
- Understand different stitch settings
- Build confidence using your sewing machine
- Learn useful sewing tips to help you get started with your own projects
There'll be plenty of opportunities to ask questions, practise your new skills and get helpful advice from your tutor along the way.
What you’ll need
Before the workshop, please have the following ready:
- Scrap fabrics
- A sewing machine in good working order
- Basic sewing supplies, including thread and scissors

Once you’ve booked your online sewing class, a member of the Sewcialising team will be in touch to arrange a date and time that works for you.
The class takes place live via Zoom or Facetime, so you can learn from the comfort of your own home.
