3 Week Learn to Sew Workshop
Beginner Sewing Lessons
This sewing workshop is aimed at complete beginners. During this sewing course, you will learn to sew from scratch, get to grips with a sewing machine and progress to making your very first basic garment across 3 weekly sessions. This sewing course will give you the confidence to use your sewing machine independently and teach you to attempt any sewing project. If you are a total novice and wish to learn to sew, then this is the course for you.
This sewing workshop takes place across 3 consecutive weeks and each workshop is 3 hours long.
During week 1's sewing class you will be introduced to a sewing machine and how it works. You will be taught basic sewing skills such as: how to sew a straight line and various other stitches, how to wind a bobbin up, how to sew around corners or finish a hem and what each component of the sewing machine can do. You will also make a cushion cover during this week's sewing class.
For this class you will require: Half a metre of fabric = 50cm by 110cm or 140cm wide and 1 cushion insert. You can bring along your own fabric or purchase a half metre of fabric in the shop on the day or your course. Sewcialising also sell cushion inserts for £4 each if you wish to purchase one.
In week 2's sewing class you will be taught how to read a dressmaking pattern. We will make Pyjama bottom and mark and pin your pattern to the fabric and cut it out according to your body measurements. You will be taught all the different pattern symbols and how to place your pattern pieces on your fabric ready to cut it out.
For this class you will require: 1m of cotton fabric if 150cm wide, or 1.5m of cotton fabric if 110cm wide. Again, fabrics can be bought in the shop or you may wish to bring your own fabric along. A pattern will be provided on the day. You will construct the garment and overlock or zigzag the edges.
In week 3 we will be finishing off the garment by sewing it all together and hemming.
