Patchwork for beginners

Come and spend some creative time making your very own log cabin patchwork cushion.

The log cabin is a classic patchwork design that looks wonderfully striking but is surprisingly achievable. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to build the design piece by piece to create your own unique cushion front.

We’ll take you through the process step by step, from choosing and arranging your fabrics to accurate cutting, piecing and pressing. You’ll then turn your finished patchwork into a beautiful cushion cover to take home.

This is a relaxed, friendly workshop with plenty of time to sew, chat and enjoy the process. Please note that this workshop is suitable for those with basic sewing knowledge. You’ll need to be comfortable using a sewing machine and able to sew a simple straight seam independently. Don’t worry if you’re still fairly new to sewing - we’ll guide you through the patchwork techniques step by step. It’s a lovely introduction to patchwork if you’re new to it, or a chance to brush up your skills and play with colour if you’ve sewn before.

You’ll learn:

• Accurate cutting and piecing,
• how to construct a traditional log cabin block,
• pressing techniques for neat patchwork,
• how to turn your finished panel into a cushion cover.

By the end of the session, you’ll have a fabulous handmade cushion and the skills to make plenty more at home.

What to bring:
You will need at least 2–3 coordinating fabrics for your project. Feel free to bring your own, or you can pick something up in store on the day. As a little bonus, you’ll receive 10% off any fabrics you buy during the class, so it’s the perfect opportunity to choose something you really love.
