3 Week Soft Furnishings Workshop
Cushion, Curtain & Roman Blind Workshop
Ready to elevate your sewing skills and transform your home with beautifully made soft furnishings? This hands-on workshop is perfect for confident sewing machine users who want to take their sewing skills further.
In this workshop you will get an introduction to sample soft furnishings. Over 3 sessions, you’ll build your skills in key soft furnishing techniques from sewing a piped cushion cover, to constructing lined curtains and making your own Roman blind sample. Along the way, you’ll learn how to plan and measure accurately for any room.
The workshop runs across 3 sessions
What You’ll Make & Learn
Session 1 – Piped Cushion Cover
Kick things off by sewing a cushion cover with a piped edging — a stylish and useful project that will boost your confidence with precise sewing and finishing techniques.
What to bring:
Half a metre of fabric = 50cm by 110cm or 140cm wide and 1 cushion insert. Please note you can buy your fabrics at our city centre store and are entitled to a 10% discount on all items bought for your workshop. Alternatively you may wish to purchase your fabrics elsewhere, which is also fine. Sewcialising also sell cushion inserts for £4.99 each if you wish to purchase one.
You’ll gain skills in:
- Piping and constructing an envelope cushion cover.
Session 2 – Lined Curtain Sample
Learn how to measure and plan for custom curtains, and construct a lined curtain sample using both hand and machine stitching.
You’ll gain skills in:
Measuring and calculating fabric quantities.
Calculating drops, widths, hems & headings.
Constructing and finishing lined curtains.
Gathering and assembling for a professional look.
What to bring:
For curtain: 1m of cotton fabric measuring 110cm-150cm;
For lining: 1m of cotton or calico fabric measuring 110cm-150cm.
Curtain tape will be provided.

Session 3 – Roman Blind Sample
Round off the course by making a sample Roman blind. You’ll learn how to calculate fabric needs, apply appropriate headings, and rig it up professionally — a perfect project to consolidate your skills.
What you’ll cover:
Accurate measurement and planning.
Assembly and construction techniques.
Applying trims, headings, and cords.
Overview of systems and installation options.
What to bring:
For curtain: 1m of cotton fabric measuring 110cm-150cm;
For lining: 1m of cotton or calico fabric measuring 110cm-150cm.
All other equipment will be provided.
